Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Bend received notification of an injured man from a crewmember aboard the 'Arctic Storm'. The man had suffered blunt force trauma to the face from a loose crane hook. The sector’s flight surgeon recommended an immediate medevac, so the 47-foot MLB crew was deployed.
A boat crew aboard a lifeboat from US Coast Guard Station Chetco River safely conducted the medevac of the 64-year-old male aboard the fishing vessel and transported him to shore for medical care.
The MLB crew stabilized the injured crewmember and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical services. His current condition is unknown.
The Coast Guard reminds mariners to always keep up-to-date first-aid equipment readily accessible in case of medical emergencies while underway.
